The foundation
stone of the campus was laid as Zonal Agricultural
Research Station on 1st December 1979 with the
establishment of 20 scientist and 31 supporting
staff. Considering the research possibilities
in the zone, Government of India approved three
All India Crop Research Projects during seventh
five year plan. Later in 1999, Department of
Science and Technology, Govt. of India approved
the Agro-meteorological Advisory Scheme at the
centre. To promote the agriculture education
in the state, the Zonal Agricultural Research
Station was converted to College of Agriculture
on 20th September, 2001 and named as Shaheed
Gundadhoor College of Agriculture and Research
Station. Presently, eight AICRP project are
running in the college besides many ad-hoc projects
from outside agencies. The campus has released
varieties in small millets, rapeseed-mustard,
horse gram and on coconut and many scientific
recommendations for farmers regarding choice
of crop varieties, package of practice of crops
etc. are made available routinely. Apart from
research, teaching is also an integral part
of the campus in compliance with extracurricular
activities like cultural, sports, NCC, NSS etc.
Till date approximate 250 students have passed
out and working as assets for educational and
working fields.
